2025 Saturday ‘Visiter’ Awards Call for Entries - Submit Your Poe Inspired Work!

The Saturday “Visiter” Awards are named for the prize a young Edgar Allan Poe won while he lived in Baltimore which helped to launch the famed writer’s career. Medals are presented by Poe Baltimore in two categories: works that adapt Poe’s life or writing (including biography, or true adaptations of his poetry or prose), and original works that are inspired by Poe’s life or writing. Puzzling Adventures are a cross between a scavenger hunt, an adventure race, and an informative self-guided walking tour. Each adventure consists of a series of locations that you are guided to where you are required to answer a question or solve a puzzle to receive your next instruction. Compete as a group, individually or create multiple teams and race each other. Almost all of our adventures are designed to be wheelchair and stroller friendly and all are carefully crafted to be entertaining and informative with something to appeal to all ages. Complete the adventure as quickly as possible to win first place or take your time and enjoy the journey. Price is per team, not per person. Groups can be any size, but small groups are recommended for the best experience.

A selection of approximately 40 paintings, prints, and drawings from the BMA’s collection explores the role of water and landscape in defining the early modern Dutch Republic.

The water’s edge was a site of rich and often fraught ideas, where environmental, economic, political, and social narratives came to the fore. It also served as a site of immense inspiration for Dutch artists such as Frans Hals, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jacob van Ruisdael, and Salomon Van Ruysdael, among many others. Landscapes depicting harbors, trade, travel, and leisure abounded, as did the production of maps, still lifes, and portraits. Together, these images offer insight into the identity of the young Dutch Republic.

This focus exhibition of 10 works explores the relationship between burning fossil fuels—namely, coal—and the emergence of European modernism. Drawing on research conducted by climate scientists and art historians, the exhibition presents a range of paintings and works on paper by Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, James McNeill Whistler, and others to explore the ways that their artistic practices and style emerged, in part, in response to widespread pollution in London and Paris.

The capsule features hoodies, tees, and shorts across men’s, women’s, and unisex styles ($30–$160). Select elements of the original Milan installation—including the immersive “Protect This Earth” experience—will be reimagined in-store, giving visitors a deeper look at the product lifecycle from plants to performance to compost.

This is the first of the three featured exhibitions that the former recipients of Lormina Salter Fellowship introduce their mentors and peers who inspire their creativity. Sam Briegel (’20) and Yoshi Fujii (’08) invite artists who emphasize forms and surface embellishments with thoughtful line quality and patterns through various creative process.

USA Vein Clinics is hosting free vein health awareness event and open house called “Glow and Flow” at its outpatient clinic in Columbia, MD, at 10440 Little Patuxent Pkwy, Ste 820, on May 21, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a free lunch, learn more about vein health, and what treatment options work for each patient’s case.
